Ahmed just looking at the new feature to restrict whole pages, looks good but you are missing just one thing for me to be able to use this feature and ditch the other plugin. Ideally, you can add a redirect url option so that if anyone tries to access a page that they are not allowed to it doesnt just say unauthorized. Instead, I would like to be able to set a redirect url. This is a screenshot of what the wordpress access control plugin looks like on a page:
Also seems to be a couple of issues with the CSV export which someone else has brought up in a new topic. One other thing if possible, when someone enters the fields to include/exlude and then clicks the export to CSV button it resets the options (i.e have to enter them again at a later date to get more recent stats). It would be better if the fields were remembered so a person does not have to enter them each time.
I’d certainly pay a lot of money for the payment add-on to be moved up the priority list.
Just to make this clear enough, no paid addons anymore. 🙂 If I did this payment module, I’ll integrate it in the plugin core, I do not want to see the price rise anymore for userpro. Users love it already this way, no need for a change in price.
Not a decision, but I just try to avoid changing what users are getting used to already. I do not want to confuse my customers, I may just keep the current structure. But, I really love how s2member has a free version, and a pro version with all premium features. I am not sure if I can adapt userpro in the future to be like this
Yeah there seems to be 2 different strategies for selling plugins. 1 – via condecanyon and 2 – using the freemuim model. Would be interesting to see the revenue that gravity forms, s2 member, woocommerce make using this model. If you look at s2member the free version has 625,000 downloads, so even if only 10% of the users get premuim that is 62,500 paying customers.
Not sure how easy it would be to switch pricing models though!
Yes, that’s the problem – the transition is very complex – also many, many users will ask why userpro is free, and what’s different, and it can sound unfair for people who paid already for plugin + addons.
Would you base it on something like Woocommerce where you have multiple addons to the core free plugin or would you just prefer to have a free version and a premuim version? If using the multiple addon model an option would be to offer one of the addons to free for exisiting customers if they provide purchase code.
If you moved to this model would you keep the premuim version on codecanyon or sell it yourself like other plugins using the freemuim do? If you did it that way you wouldn’t need to give half the money to CC plus you can set your own prices!
I don’t think people would mind too much but only if there is a noticable difference between the free version and the premium version. For example, the free version may not include social connect or the ability to export data via CSV etc. I guess the idea with the free model is to offer not that much so that a person really needs to buy premuim version to unleash the full benefits of the plugin! Also a lot of plugins that use the freemuim model only provide support to people who have purchased premium version so that is another way to differentiate between the two.
Im pretty behind this and think it would be a good idea, especially if you were to sell it away from codecanyon, as then you could offer different prices for a single site version and unlimited site versions like S2Member does:

I guess wordpress blogs etc. There was a user plugin that was released on CodeCanyon a couple of months ago called Users Ultra but due to lack of sales on CC they have realeased it as a free plugin on WordPress. It is not nearly as good as your plugin but they already have 2,700 downloads from wordpress plugin directory, so I imagine your plugin would have no problem getting high downloads. Then it is about creating a better website which is more marketing focused and also designing the free version of the plugin so that it encourages people to upgrade to premium. For example you show the features that are available in the premium version but they are disabled in the free version, then you have text and a link saying to use this feature please upgrade to pro version.
