Thanks Andy and Jonathan for this list. 🙂
—
1. Set required fields – This is an important one
2. Change order of fields/remove fields
3. Make the_content field plain text (no rich text editor) – less js to load.
4. IMPORTANT Stop people from being able to submit posts over and over again, you can currently spam the **** out of the form and it’ll appear in your pending posts 50 times.
5. Load in modal with ajax? (easy to access site wide)
6). Allow members to edit their submitted posts. Having a page which lists each post that has been approved, those that are pending (if any) and an edit button or link would be most beneficial.
7). The ability for members to “Report A Post.” Add in checks and balances to prevent the post from being reported more than X times so that you’re not flooded with reports on the same post.
8). Allow admins to create multiple front-end submission forms.
9). Ability to upload more than just a single image. Keep the existing featured image, though allow members to upload additional images and use the WordPress gallery to display them. This keeps the activity on-site and members don’t have to use image hosting services with short links in their posts.
10). Allow for customized fields. As an example, if I ran a car selling site, I’d like to be able to have a Price, Make/Model and other related fields. Allowing for easy customization of display would also be great so the field results aren’t just thrown into the post.
Looks like Andy beat me to the submit button in the midst of writing up my thread, so I’ll post here :).
Merged
Great ideas, Jonathan. 🙂
As for number 8, I think this could be achieved via more access to the API in the form of shortcode customisations.
ie.
<?php echo do_shortcode(‘[userpro template=publish publish_heading=New Post publish_button_primary=Post fields=’Featured_image, the_content, the_title’ required_fields=’the_title, Featured_image’ ]’); ?>
= Title, content, featured image – featured image and title are required but content is not.
Multiple forms? You can just duplicate the shortcodes with different settings, not? (PHP or direct shortcode method.. […] or echo do_shortcode(‘[…]’);
Sorry, didn’t notice your reply. 🙂 Ok the first post only will be updated to merge ideas in one place.
+1 from me, great list all needed features. Jonathan´s number 10 is on top of my list.
Hi Brent! Please list any topics you need immediate help for / or topics that have not got any answer yet.
I like the many of the suggestions above. (may not have a use for them all)
My only request would be to make the form alot more compact!
The featured image section would become an icon button for example.It would be great to have something styled that could be placed (separately of course) above the activity feed.
Now that would be cool! 🙂Cheers
MikeI’m going to do a quick (concept) redesign on the front end publisher just now, I’ll post it up soon.
Ok so here’s my concept for what the front end publisher should look/function like.
Full image :- http://i.imgur.com/lpHi7oO.jpg
1. A new shortcode to load the publisher from anywhere in a modal(easy enough).
<?php echo do_shortcode(‘[userpro template=loadpublisher]’); ?>
Creates a button you can drop into your template to load it from anywhere with ajax (saves going to a seperate page to make a post).
2. Simpler Featured image box/dialog as a required field
3. Plain text version of the_content area, the wordpress editor is good but in most situations it’s just wasted space/javascript.
Choose between plain text/rich text editor with template tags.
4. After you submit the post the fields are cleared to stop duplicate submissions.
Super simple should be our goal initially.
Basically, Ahmed – the more template tags and options you give us the better. 😀
Sounds great!
I’ll read it properly next Andy time soz.Cheers
Mike
