What does "Sync UserPro profile links with BuddyPress" actually do?

Can I run both plugins simultaneously?

I need to be able have user locations show on a map which I cannot do with UserPro but can do with Buddypress. Plus I can user generated event and listing plugins with buddypress that I cannot with UserPro.

I’m trying to recreate this (done with Community Builder in Joomla)
