Just forgot to mention. It would be great if the posts tab had a counter and it linked directly to the author archive page (core feature of wp)

Maybe I am understanding this wrong but why not just add pages and put the appropriate shortcode in them? That what I have done. You just put the header of the profile and then the code for following under it, that way it defines the user.
Yeah you can already do that using shortcodes, and inserting them into different tabs
