Is the “redirect=ok” query string that shows up after a redirect serving any functional purpose that would break if it wasn’t there? I really would prefer not to have it making my urls more verbose if it’s not absolutely necessary. It also makes the page show up in a lot of analytics services as a unique page. For example, “site.com/some-page” and “site.com/some-page?redirect=ok” show up as two different pages in Google Analytics even though they’re identical. I realize that selectively ignoring specific query strings can be fixed on the GA end, but that’s not the point. I use several analytics services across several sites, so it would be great if the query string could be omitted if it isn’t doing anything other than notifying about a successful redirect. (the fact that a redirect happened is enough to show a successful redirect, right?)
I found and removed the string from the plugin code and used the plugin for several days with no issue, but with all the updates I obviously keep overwriting my fix.
If it’s doing something useful, great. Would love to know what that is. But if it’s purely informational, can it be officially removed or shut off with an option?
Keep up the great work! Thanks!
Jeremy
Hi Jeremy,
I’ve fount that without this parameter, the URL is not notified about a change (Sometimes) so even when you login, you can appear as non-logged in until you refresh the page! That’s why I added this query string to enforce hard refresh.
I am open to ideas, I am afraid that If I remove it, the same problem will start to occur again. especially on cached websites and pages.
Hey Ahmed,
Since it’s not a big deal and I’m probably one of the only people that actually cares about this, I’d be happy to try to work on a solution and contribute back to the plugin if I sort it out. Have you been able to reliably reproduce the issue? If so, when does it happen? I’ve tried every platform and browser I can get my hands on and have not been able to produce that problem.
I’ve removed it from the live demo, and will monitor it for sometime. Please let me know if you noticed any glitch
