After i had updated to version 1.83 the control or tool bar of the editior is missing?
I mean the tool bar. Like on this editor. Where are the elements to format the text.
Because it’s extra javascript to load and it’s largely pointless. Ahmed was entirely right to remove it.
And how can i load it? i want this tool bar. I don’t think that this bar is completely useless. It makes it much easier to format the text particularly for the most users (if they don’t know how to use the BB code).
Maybe Ahmed will give you an option to do so in the next update. It is largely pointless though (not to mention ripe for abuse and resource heavy).
@ Black_op Basically, Andy asked for it to be removed and it looks like it has now been done.
Unfortunately this is the biggest problem with UserPro at the moment..
Requests by a select few are being pushed through and everyone else has to deal with the consequences when we update. :/I’m struggling now with UserPro as we were promised that all updates would be optional.
Looks like this isn’t the case, but it’s very important that they should be.
I can’t keep up, that every time I update I have to check whether my website still functions the way it should.. It’s crazy! You serious, Mike? Adding in the visual editor adds a heck of a lot of bloat to page loads with javascript, it’s pointless.
Name one large scale site that uses a visual editor, just one. Facebook, nope, yahoo, nope, reddit, nope, no one does it. And it doesn’t make sense that userpro include it either.
If you REALLY want the visual editor and the bold/italic/lists etc then there’s wordpress’s own plugin that adds it in http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-front-end-editor/
Perhaps Ahmed should add it as an option (strictly if there’s conditionally loaded js when it exists, otherwise it’s practically insane to include it).
Ahmed isn’t pushing through requests by a ‘select few’, he’s doing what’s best for the plugin and the large majority of users who use it and he’s doing it great. As a developer I can say Ahmed is an exemplary example of how to provide customer support, updates and features, he’s doing amazing. I’d hire him in a second.
Lets get one thing straight, Ahmed gets thumbs up from me all day long!
All I’m saying is he should be very careful when removing ANY functions.
You may not need them, but obviously others may (as ‘Black_op above has pointed out)Obviously the front-end publisher was a big thing for you.
It’s good YOU got what you wanted.. (that’s great!) That doesn’t mean everyone else wanted it, or should have it forced on them.UserPro is developing fast (maybe too fast??) and that’s all great!!!!
BUT!! – You have to bear in mind there is a growing trail of small niggles that need sorting out.
IMO These should be prioritised before any more ‘major updates’ because it’s causing people problems.
It’s hard to get any decent attention on these because the main focus seems to be on the new stuff.
Things seem to be going off the rails at the moment and the UserPro plan/structure changes on a weekly basis, regarding addons etc.
I fear for anyone who doesn’t read these forums, because I do quite regularly I still can’t keep up.
It’s almost Chaos!@andy999 Why are you talking about Facebook, Yahoo and Reddit ? We are talking about posts that need a minimum of formating. I don’t need to align my text or put some words in bold or italic when I post on Facebook! This comparaison make no sense.
If we use frontend publisher it’s especially for lambda users. But most of these users aren’t familiars with html!
Just right here on this forum you have a tool bar when you write a message. In my case my users are lost since they don’t have the tool bar anymore.
When software is being developed is always a messy, painful process. I completely agree with you that the current features should be prioritised before new ones are added though (something Ahmed has said he’ll be doing).
@nexnivis
Perhaps Ahmed will give you that option in a future update.
The point is, less is more. when the front end publisher loads and has 10 icons and some javascript it’s a pain in the ass. The next area handles paragraphs and most formatting anyway, it just doesn’t let you italicise text etc, which is probably a good thing honestly, there’s a reason why facebook and ANY large scale site usually strips formatting.
I am just thinking about making a WYSIWG or another editor with less bloats and it will be optional. The original editor never been responsive and took a lot of files to load. That’s why I removed it. and I apologize for users for that 🙁 You can stick to v1.0.82 in the meantime
Unfortunatly the editor was not responsive but on mobile devices like iPhone the user had to turn the phone and the Editor was completly visible. Will it be possible in the Future to make the content field fullscreen with a click?
I think ahmed had his reasons why he has removed it. But your last suggestion with the WYSIWYG editor would be amazing 😉
I know you just want the best for us 😉
