I am running into a bit of a customization issue, specifically with my profiles.

I would like to hide the unique user name from the public profile. I have been able to accomplish this on the memberlist, but not in the profile. Another issue that I am running into is that I would like to hide the email/phone icons in the public profile as well.

Thanks,

Stylisting

To hide the email/phone icons, you can just make them hidden from public. Right? or am I missing something? πŸ™‚

Let me see if I can better explain what I am trying to accomplish.

The directory I am trying to configure is going to be used professionally for potentially thousands of users. I would like to only display the User’s First and Last name in the profile, hiding the username. That way I can have multiple user’s with the name “Mike Smith” and will be able to allow the users freedom to create any username they wish without it being visible to someone searching the directory.

Please forget about the icon part of the question.

Thanks.

I can give you advice on how to hide it.

Would you mind please, providing a screenshot of the “Edit” view of the profile?
It will help to know what fields are filled out and what fields are not filled out.

The only other name that will show up will be the display name. If the display name isn’t filled out, the default will be the username.

WordPress inserts the username into the “nicename” field of the database when a user signs up for a site. This is a WordPress thing. In order for the username not to be used, a display name (via UserPro) field has to be filled out. To my knowelged, real names are not going to show up under the avatar. At least they don’t in my tests.

I have also noticed that there might be an issue with the shortcode [userpro template=view include_fields_by_name=First Name,Last Name]. When using this shortcode, the First Name and Last Name do not show. If the Display Name is filled in, then the display name is going to show. If it isn’t, then the username is going to show. I cannnot force the Real Name to show, even the fields below the header with that shortcode.

I even went so far as to click the icons in the edit profile fields to hide the username and display name from public view. That didn’t work. Then I added the option for the member to make the fields hidden. Trying to force the Real Name to show under the Avatar. That didn’t work either.

However, the biggest thing I think is that when a member goes to their profile page, if they click edit profile from the profile view, with that shortcode active on the page, there is nothing to edit. All fields are hidden. This isn’t the way it should be, IMO.

The member should be able to see those fields in the edit mode.

If the member goes to the “Edit Profile” page, things function normally. And should since that shortcode showing only the Real Name (which doesn’t show), isn’t on the Edit Profile page.

Is there a bug here? It would appear to me that there might be.

Simple as that. πŸ™‚

Correct. If display name is not filled, display name falls back to Username. It’s a WP thing. I do not quite understand what’s the bug with that πŸ™‚
