I can’t get mine to work and I emailed web host to ask if they can activate timthumb as I’m getting the Timthumb error: Could not get lock for writing and I’ve been told they can’t do it cos it’s a Shared Platform….???

Anyone else on shared platforms (which ones?) where it’s working fine?

Superb internet have been really good with 99% uptime, fast, free daily backups and almost instant responses to 24/7 support tickets so I really don’t want to change host but just want to check how many shared hosts out there actually allow timthumb?? Maybe I can put a case forward if there’s 10 different shared platforms out there that allows it.

Thanks

Many hosts limit what shared hosting accounts can do. The main purpose of shared hosting is for blogs and low resource applications like maybe landing pages. VPS hosting is getting very reasonable. I would suggest that you consider a simi managed (if you don’t know servers) VPS account. You will be able to do what you pretty much want to do. It might cost a little more, but well worth it.

I don’t recommend to anyone planning on a lot of traffic or using plugins that enhance the functionality of WordPress to us shared hosting. It’s just a headache to you and the host. 🙂
