Here is a quick overview of the new features and changes in this update.
Block Specific Usernames or Emails
Now you can block a specific username, or email from logging in or even registering at your site. This increases the security to stop specific spammers and haters. They won’t be able to login, or sign up for new account. Additionally it is a nice filter to block usernames like: admin, Administrator, staff, etc. This option is available in the new options in Settings > Form Validation & Security!
Built-In Phone Number Validation
Ever wanted to add automatic regex validation to a basic phone number field? Now you can do it! You can choose any fields to be validated as phone number to increase your form quality and security when you need to ask user for his phone number – It does not make sense to enter his name. So the new regex will validate “phone_number” custom field plus any fields you SELECT to be validated as phone number before they can edit/register their profile.
Maximum Field Length Validation
Nobody wants a user to register a very long username (Thanks to Andy) or a very long first name, or display name. This can look ugly. This new feature allow you to automatically setup field length validation and return an ajax error instantly if the user tries to enter too long name. This should work on username, name, and display name + additional fields you choose! You can even control the number of characters allowed e.g. maximum number of characters for username is 36 by default.
New E-mail Template Tags!
{USERPRO_BLOG_URL} to display blog URL
{USERPRO_BLOG_ADMIN} to display blog admin URL
{USERPRO_NAME} to display user’s public name (Display Name)
That’s it for this minor update! Special thanks to all users who give feature requests and ideas to improve UserPro.
Great update, a lot of instersting things! Thanks a lot Ahmed, excellent as usual.
Remember that you can dl the full french translation here 😀
I see you can controle field entries by restricting lenght or disable dash etc… But are you able to allow some things that are restricted by wordpress ?
I mean that in wordpress multisite we can’t use uppercase and accents (é, è, ê, î, ë, ä, ö, etc…) in usernames. Can you modify that with UserPro ?
And other question : what happen if an user connect for the first time with Facebook or whatever, and his name is too long ?
I thought UserPro already DENY illegal chars from username. I can’t register these myself, username check uses another ajax check which makes sure that username is safe to use.
The problem of registration through social networks and the choice of the user role has been resolved?
I’ve already reported on this forum: When a user logs in using social networks, can not choose the role (custom) with which to register on my website (which includes a choice of one of two roles defined). Users must choose the role with which they have access to certain content, I need this change. In your plugin, you can only set a default role, I need a user can choose to take effect before that recording on my website.
It’s clear that we need a two-steps registration for social connect! After clicking on a social connect and succefully logged for the first time, users should be redirected on a form to achieve the registration.
It would be great for choosing role as tronkybs says, and in my case I want that my users enters a display name instead of their facebook or twitter first and last names.
