Hi,
Installing UserPro on multisite created a lot of issues:
When Network activated, I can log ok on all Subdomains with super admin login, but when trying to log to the main site or the Network Page, I’m being redirected to the login page. It seems it also asked me to register the plugin on each site from the network, which can be quite cumbersome. When I installed the plugin on just the main domain and one subdomain (to test), subdomain work good (except avatar issue, but that’s a known one) but main domain behave badly.
1) I lost most of my user. For a big majority when trying to view their profile, I get:
An error has occured
The user profile you are trying to reach does not exist. It could have been removed.
1-bis) When looking at the user list in the dashboard, they’re all gone, though it stills show the number per role, so WP knows they exist.
(right-click > Open image in a new tab if it doesn’t display)2) I manage to access one profile without the error, when clicking edit (logged as super-admin), it sends me to the login page.
I have UserPro 1.0.59
WP Multisite Install post 3.5 with version 3.8 running.little mistake for point 2)
When logged in as user (via facebook) and clicking edit, we’re sent back to login form.Site is http://DanceComp.org and subdomain site is http://test1.dancecomp.org
Thanks Frederic, just curious – are you testing the demo, or have bought the plugin?
I have bought the plugin
(hence the issue with each site asking for the license on the Network Install)Thanks @Frederic for adding the purchase code.. That makes things easier for those assisting. It is common for plugins with verification codes to have to be placed in site by site.. Many themes do the same. If there is no Network Dashboard menu item for a plugin, which UserPro does not have, then you will be asked for the code on each site because settings are stored from site to site, even though it is the same database, tables are assigned based on the current site.
If you don’t want to copy the verification code from site to site, you can use the export settings and then copy and paste your settings in each site, then go to licensing and the activation code will show up on that site. Click on “Save Settings” and you will have activated the plugin on that site..
I do agree, if you have a network setup where people are signing up for that network and they are getting as site, with UserPro activated (cloned), then the trial showing up isn’t a good thing. I haven’t tried the cloning thing, so I don’t know yet if the activation gets transferred..
I haven’t been able to do any testing in recent days, so a lot of the multisite stuff hasn’t been tested by me.. However, I will be testing in the next few hours and tomorrow, and I will report back what I find out.. I use multisite almost exclusively, so I am used to the twists and turns of Multisite..
I do know, I won’t have anything to say about the facebook issue.. I don’t and won’t use facebook.. Don’t like it I don’t care what my members say.. So, someone else will have to chime in on that..
Hi @Frederic,
How do you have your multisite set up? Do you need a profile page for members on each site?
Hehe, I can’t blame you for not caring about Facebook 😉
If would do the same if I could. My main issue isn’t do much the licensing, but mostly the fact that all my users are gone! Well they are here, but userpro seem to think they have been deleted.
That and the fact the main site acts funny while the subdomain don’t.
I set up the blog.dir fix, but if userpro is network activated, avatar won’t appear on main site…
It’s like a no win. Has anything been found to some this yet?
If you are post 3.5 there shouldn’t be any fix for blog.dir. it isn’t used anymore.
Anyway.. Like I said, I am going to be testing to see exactly what is happening with Multisite.. I would sure like to know why the need to network activate UserPro. In many cases, one site (usually the main site) is necessary. But I will wait to read how you have it set up before I waste a lot of typing for something that is incorrect. As you may know, there are a number of different ways Multisite can be used.. And depending upon the useage, I could be way off base.. there isn’t one canned answer when it comes to Multisite.. Anyone helping with a Multisite install has to know how it is being used. That is also a major issue with developers.. they can miss certain configurations because not everyone uses WordPress Multisite the way it was originally intended.
@central_geek, thank you for your help, much appreciated.
You’re absolutely right about the different ways Multisite can be use.At this time, I manually set each new subdomain site (so the license thing isn’t that much an issue). All sub-sites are competition sites, meaning users (competitors) will potentially use all or at least several of them.
Since all site have similar functionality they also share a lot of plugins. A few have extra to compensate or add to the them they use.
The idea of a user being able to log to any of the site with the same credentials is quite appealing. Hence I though of Network activating UserPro. However, I don’t really need it but on three sites (one site will heavily use UserPro meta-data to help with online registration to the competitions) for now, so it doesn’t need to be network activated for now… I just like to think for the future.
So to sum up, main site need it, two others would be helpful for the way I envision the next step (having one site just for registration)
my bad on the post 3.5, I meant pre-3.5, I do have the blog.dir on my install, though I’m up to date with WP version (3.8)
Oh. Okay.. now we are on the same page.. lol I have done some preliminary tests..
With the issue of logging in. I cannot replicate the issue. I have four subsites and the main site and I can log in just fine as admin. Are you having an issue with lower level roles or just the admin?
Do you have the setting from Global Options to always send admin to the dashboard? If not, you may be being directed back to the log in page, but you are actually logged in.. let me know on this. I have been testing with three different themes across the network.
I can update any field on any subsite and it updates network wide.. I have tested this. I have added content from every site and gone to each of the other sites and refreshed the page and the content shows on each site as it has been updated on the other site..
For lost user.. as far as the user not finding their profile page and getting the error.. Have you gone to Settings > Permalinks for each site and re-saved the permalinks.. sometimes this solves a lot of issues.. Let me know about that.. Thanks. 🙂
With users not showing up.. Are they not showing up in the members directory? This on I still have to test. But I need to know what exactly is going on there. After I find out if you have tried updating the permalinks.. Thanks
Yes, Global Setting > Send admin to dashboard is on
Not able to log in as Admin only happened when UserPro was activated Networkwide. WHen activated ‘per site’ it works ok.If you manage to see the picture I shared on my first post, users were missing only in the dashboard, however I have followed your instruction to update the permalink and the list now appears back.
I’m still having issue however that when looking at a members profile on the main site I get the “An error has occured” UserPro message.
check it out:
http://dancecomp.org/profile/Troy/Good, that’s progress.. 😉
Although, I haven’t had the network activated issue in my tests.. Everything is working as it should.
But, I’m glad you got that part sorted.Have you tried changing the “Profile Permalink Structure” in Global Options to something different and then changing it back again? By that I mean, change it and see if that works and then change it back and see if it works.. On the site you are having the issue..
