I thought I would be able to fix this by setting up a custom roles plugin, but the level needed to simply upload a photo allows the user too much access and I was able to access the back end administration when clicking an edit link on the post.

I may be able to work around with an access plugin to turn off the areas of the backend, but that kinda defeats an elegant use of UserPro.

Post editing should be handled by backend. You need to disable the ‘wp-admin redirecting to ‘profile’ in settings. And then your roles will be able to access certain parts of backend to edit posts. 🙂

I’m most likely going to be setting my site up to allow for posting via the backend for now. There will be less confusion and with the access plugin I have I can lock down anything I don’t want them getting into.

If you create a role, and assign only those capabilities to that role you want that role to have, then you can deny any other capabilities right?

I disagree with Support about the editing “should be on the backend” only. There are other frontend posting plugins (one of which I sent to Ahmed), that provides a dashboard where a list of the posts made by the member is shown and the ability on the frontend to edit what the author had posted. So, it’s not just for backend. And those other plugins do not pose any security threat. They would have been reported and removed from WP Repository if they were a security threat.

I even placed a lock on the profile page as well as all other pages just to be sure. I wasn’t aware the user couldn’t edit the page after it was created. So the access control will be a necessary piece. I can only imagine the support request that would pour in from the users if they couldn’t edit a post. 😉

That’s just a must have.

AHMED! PLEASE WE DEFINITELY DO NEED SOMETHING VIA THE FRONT END SO THAT USERS CAN EDIT/DELETE THEIR POSTS.
