Hi there!
This is the ultimate thread to fix conflicts and issues with profile links / permalinks. Please post your issue briefly like this:
– a link to your broken profile link
– what setting you use for permalinks
– does the problem exist with specific theme / plugin, or globally?I’ll do my best to cover and fix your issue with this thread, and with this specific issue.
Thanks, hope I can help some people already 🙂
Guys, I am sorry, had to remove replies because the layout was broken due to some wrong code in replies. Please provide this in your privater reply.
FTP, WP-admin , LIVE URL to issue asap, I’ll check it
Yes, that is the problem
Please note though that test users on dev site were created by Userpro, whereas on the live site, users are standard wordpress users. Maybe thats why its not working?
If you use another permalink structure, e.g. display name – and the users were created without userpro, you may face this issue. Please confirm if thats’ your case. try to create a user with userpro and tell me if it works fine with your permalink setting. that will mean “no problems”
Hi Ahmed,
Thank you so much for your assistance, much appreciated.
I created a new user from userpro frontend now and its working, I can view and edit the profile. When logged in as the new test user, I can view my profile and edit it. However I can’t View other profiles (the ones created in wordpress itself), it gives the not found error.
So it is indeed standard wordpress users not created with userpro, which is the problem. I assumed that Userpro will display the profiles of these standard wordpress users as well, since userpro displays these users in memberlist with no problem.
Btw, Im not sure what you mean regarding using another permalink structure? Do you mean I must change structure again now? Or do you mean that standard wordpress users previously had a different permalink and that it is causing the problem? The standard wordpress users permalink structure for profiles, before installing Userpro, used to be website.com/author.
So basically a person can only use Userpro for profiles created with Userpro?
Please advise how I can get my already registered standard wordpress users profiles to display on userpro profile page? Or is this not possible at all with Userpro?
r I can’t View other profiles (the ones created in wordpress itself),
That’s the heart of the problem. Ok now to confirm your issue, you certainly USE DISPLAY NAME (NOT USERNAME) as permalink structure for profiles, correct?
I mean, you use “display name” as permalink structure? Because if you use username as permalink structure it will work even with users created from backend. Just trying to cover the issue
I have tried username permalink structure before, but will try it again now.
Oh wow! Thank you so much! I don’t know what magic you did on the site files, but when I changed to username now, I can now see the wordpress user profiles as well.
You really helped me out big time, thank you so much for excellent support, much appreciated.Just a quick question, how can I show only author role on memberlist and also on list template in sidebar?
Btw, once I eventually get only authors to display on memberslist and on sidebar listing, will it be safe for me to upgrade to latest version of Userpro again, or will upgrade override the edits I assume you have made to files?
With regards to only displaying author profiles on memberlist and in sidebar (I dont want subscriber roles to be listed in memberslist or sidebar) , when using user=author in shortcode, it does not seem to do the trick…What other shortcode can I try to achieve this?
Nevermind, I found solution now on shortcode Reference, on memberslist I am supposed to use role=author and not user=author.
Thank you for all your assistance.
@engima role=author 🙂 Should work! Thanks
Sebastian, checking your site now
I’ve tried almost everything, it seems there’s a broader issue with missing rewrite rules, my custom rewrites do not function, just like that. All of them. I believe you need to do further test, if this happen with other custom rewrites, it’s more of a global issue on this WP installation.
Ahmed. yes role=author works perfect in memberlist, thank you. However it seems I can’t select to only display author role on template=list in sidebar? Is this correct?
