I found another post requesting this back in February of 2014 and it was stated that it was in the works. This is a very useful feature of BuddyPress and would be very useful here too. It would be nice to allow members to also crop their background picture while you’re at it. Not everyone owns photo editing software, so this would make the whole profile creation/customization process easier for users.
