Hi,
When creating a custom user profile, the profile page is used to display the profile, and the edit page is used to edit specific profile fields.
This way, the admin doesnt have the option to edit the user profiles if its required, in front-end. The admin just doesnt have access to loggedin nor profile_by_url edit fields.
Is there a need for an additional edit page which will use the standard template=edit syntax in it? or maybe you have another solution to this? Maybe backup (edit+view) pages could be good for the plugin anyway?
Thanks!!
Hi @tberin,
The default view of each user profile by admins, should have an edit profile button under the user image. Unless it has been removed by customization. With that button (maybe placed in an alternate location), the admin can always access the profile to edit it. So can the member. In my opinion, the edit “Page” is an extra, I’m not sure is needed, because all fields are available via that edit profile button. Does that help?
The only option to have an edit option for other users is that specific URL’s (edit URL’s) are not handled as users.
If you provide a user a specific URL for edditing and design a custom profile page edit option, you as the admin are left without the option to edit anything for other users.**SUPPORT: Please add an additional EDIT page option for USERPRO 😀
In your customization on your site, are you editing the template files or are you just editing CSS?
It seems that you and I are talking from different angles. There is an edit option for the admin and the user on the profile page, unless you are removing it in your customization. A page called edit, I realize will only take the admin to their own profile edit. If you are wanting to have the ability to edit the profile of members, why remove it from where it is?
Can you not just (if you don’t want that edit option on the profile page for members) make it only able to be viewed by admin? Or are you just wanting to have the ability for admin to edit user profiles on a different page altogether?
What if, the default view of a user’s profile for admin were the edit view rather than the public profile view? Would that work?
If you dont use the template “edit” with the included fields, you as the admin dont have the option to edit anything for the user as you are not using the same structure.
Currently I have no option to show specific contents to only admins, without displaying a message box. So its a very good suggestion from your end, we have 2 options then:
1. Display specific contents to admins only.
2. Create an additional edit page for admins.I like your idea 1 better as it will allow additional options in the future!
Good point @CentralGeek!It has always seemed a little redundant to have that edit button on the profile page, for the member when there is a separate edit page set up for the member to use. So, making that edit button for only admin makes better sense to me.
Then there would not be a need for a third option for editing profiles. The admin could click on that button that is already there and the profile would switch to edit mode, and the member can use the Edit page. Does that make better sense to you?
Then, of course, from the edit page, the button to view profile could be allowed to stay, so that the member would be able to view their profile.
I would also make the suggestion that, when a member views their profile, they see it as other members can see it. That way they can verify if they have set a field to be hidden, it is in fact, hidden. Just thinking while I type here.
The button is good if you are editing inside the standard template structure but not if you just showing the header.
So I’m afraid that displaying the edit button when there are no fields under it will not help at all in this situation.Regarding hidden, again, only if you use the standard template and not design your own profile page.
An admin only content restriction is required here.
Are you using custom templates or are you customizing by utilizing the shortcode options? If just by custom shortcodes, then yes. The author should make a way for the admin to get around the use of those shortcodes to be able to edit. And I can understand why you would be insisting on this feature.
Actually, a bird whispered me a fantastic solution for this 🙂
EYES ONLY plugin!
Just implemented it, and it simply works!
I inserted the default edit shortcode to the standard edit page and puff its showing only to admins 😀Sorry, my bad…
Its working only on the default link /profile, but not when its found in a specific user URL.
So Still need a solution from USERPRO here..

So Still need a solution from USERPRO here because the URL structure is unique…
