Is there a simple way to add an additional tab called “activity” to the user profile area? Currently, we have “following” and “followers” and lots of space. I could easily see the benefit of adding an “activity” tab, as well as others using the handy shortcodes, rather than having this content on different pages.

If this is more involved, please let me know!

As you can see, there is the possibility to show most anything you want in tabs. However, in order to do this, there is a plugin you will need to install to get the result I have here. It’s a free plugin on WordPress.org called “Quick Tabs” and it is compatible with WP 3.8 backward compatible to WP 3.0 (according to the information provided by the author).

The rest is just playing with the shortcodes for UserPro. If you don’t know how to do this after taking a look at that plugin, contact me, we can work something out. And yes, as long as there is a shortcode for it, you can show it in this Tabs plugin. So far as my own tests confirm.

Custom Tabs - Followers

Custom Tabs - Following

Custom - Tabs Activity of Those I Follow

Custom Tabs - All Memebers Activity

Custom Tabs - Bookmarks

Have fun.. Let your imagination be your guide. 😀

And I apologize for taking so long to respond, I have been a little busy.

That’s all I did, and I came up with the result I was looking for. You aren’t going to break anything, if it’s not the way you want it to look, just try something else.

Everything on those images has been done with the shortcodes I found on the pages for UserPro, the Shortcode Reference Page http://userproplugin.com/userpro/shortcode-reference/

And the activity shortcode [userpro template=activity]

Each shortcode was used with different options available for the specific shortcode as well as the general options. Great fun..

I did create a special page for displaying. I haven’t tried all of the possible variations. But, it sure opens up the opportunity to brand your website as being unique while using UserPro.

I’m glad you like the possibilities.

A few Questions for you…..I love what you did here…thats a great option to have for future web projects. 1) Where do you put the tabs at…Inside of the users Profile Page, similar to BuddyPress’s tabs?…or 2) Do they display on another part of your website. Because if what you show in the Test photo is for ALL users i’ll start playing around with the shortcodes to accomplish this…or 3) Ares the Examples just for an individual user? Thanks.

What I show in the test is what you would see for those you are following, those who follow you, the activity of those you are following, all activity of all users and your own bookmarks. It is on a separate page from the profile page. Basically, it replaces the “Following”, “Followers”, “Activity of those you follow” “All Activity” and “My Bookmarks” pages. So, it combines all of those pages into one. You don’t have to have those pages if you have the one with the tabs.

Each person visiting that page would see only things that apply to them, not other people’s followers or being followed by another person. It’s a personal page just as the others are personal pages. On my site, that particular page is called “My Spy”.. Original, hey?? 😀

The tab plugin creates a shortcode where the tabs have been created and the shorcode for UserPro is within those tabs, which are created individually in the dashboard area. When you install the tab plugin, there will be two new menu items in the side dashboard menus. It’s pretty self explanatory once you see it. The profile page is untouched.

One could include the “Edit Profile” page but you might run into a problem with a broken link in UserPro pages because the shortcode for that page won’t be obvious to UserPro (as far as I know) because it is hidden within a shortcode. I can’t confirm that yet because I simply haven’t tried it. You could also add the publisher in another tab if you wanted.

Thus is formed a structure more simple and easy to manage.

Switching from tab to tab, there is no need for page refresh to show new page, as all of the content is already loaded. Very quick indeed. That will impress members. It’s definitely an option and it’s a simple one to accomplish without having to have UserPro add the feature.
